The Process of Proper Containment.

Finding mold in your home or business can be a stressful event. Knowing what to expect can alleviate some of that anxiety.

When a Mold Remediation expert begins their work, they will be focused on is proper containment of the affected area. Isolation of the area is essential as when removing or disturbing a mold source, large quantities of mold spores become airborne. Without proper containment, these spores could spread throughout the indoors and affect nearby areas causing cross-contamination.

The first step of the containment process is installing a HEPA Filtered Negative Air Machine. This system has a fan that sucks the air from the mold affected area and exhausts it outside and far away from the structure. While the machine works to cleanse the air of airborne spores and create a Negative Pressure Environment, the mold specialist will move onto the second step of containment.

The second step of containment is installing physical barriers in the work area. Most commonly this is done using heavy plastic. These barriers are established to ensure that the affected area is completely isolated from adjacent, non-affected areas. Part of this process includes covering all HVAC Systems, shared airways, electrical outlets, light fixtures and more. Any area that could allow for air to enter or leave will be properly sealed.

By this time, the HEPA Filtered Negative Air Machine will have created a Negative Pressure Environment in the room. That means that the air pressure within the affected area is less than the air pressure in the area surrounding the space. As a result, any mold spores that become airborne during remediation will be controlled and flushed out of the indoor environment!
